Netflix’s Biggest Movie Of All Time Is Getting Two Sequels, GlitzEmpire

Netflix is leading the charge in the streaming game, and others have a lot of ground to make up. Disney Plus has used spin-offs and familiar properties to gain ground, but if they want to really make some headway, then they need to step up their original content game.

Netflix’s original content has been superb, and stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence made millions for their Netflix projects.

A recent Netflix film spent millions and became the biggest hit in its history. Let’s look at that film’s success and the announcement that it will be getting multiple sequels, effectively starting a franchise.

Netflix Makes Fantastic Original Content

Originally, Netflix was simply a service people used to rent movies, but eventually, the powers that be saw that there was so much more that they could be doing. Eventually, they started pumping out original content, and while it was a slow start, they eventually reached a point where they were putting out great stuff.

TV shows were what really got the ball rolling for the original content, but in recent years, Netflix has been making some excellent movies that have been receiving widespread acclaim. On top of that, these movies are also being watched in millions of households around the world.

As this original content continues to generate steam for Netflix, the streaming giant has become willing to spend hundreds of millions of dollars in order to bring their vision to life. As time goes on, things will only continue to get bigger, which is going to make offers far more desirable for top talent.

In fact, just last year, Netflix released what has become the biggest original film in its impressive history.

‘Red Notice’ Was A Massive Hit

2021’s Red Notice was a film that was stealing headlines thanks to the fact that it was being anchored by a hugely popular cast. Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds were the lead stars, and this was instrumental in the film generating a ton of interest prior to its global release.

One major piece of news surrounding the film was the salary that the lead performers were taking home.

According to Variety, “Reynolds will receive $20 million for his acting services. Gadot, whose part is smaller, is expected to make the same after salary and the streamer’s practice of buying out typical “back end” profits stars would make from a theatrical release.”

Dwayne Johnson was said to be making more due to the role he played in producing the film.

Netflix rolled the dice on a project of this size, but that gamble paid off, as the film was watched for over 328 million streaming hours, making it the biggest film in Netflix history. This bested all previous releases, and it remains bigger than Don’t Look Up, which had an ensemble casting featuring the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.

Now that the film has gone down as the biggest in Netflix history, recent news has reignited interest in the massive property.

‘Red Notice’ Is Getting Two Sequels

In truth, people shouldn’t be surprised to learn that Red Notice is getting a sequel film, but the big surprise here is that it is being reported that two sequels will be shot back-to-back. This is something that does not happen often, and clearly, the first film was a big enough success for Netflix that they are willing to roll the dice with this type of approach.

According to Deadline, “Netflix would not comment, but sources said the plan is to bring back the star trio and add new characters to flesh out a heist-film ensemble reminiscent of the starry Ocean’s Eleven franchise.”

This is big news for the streaming platform, which has already had its fair share of hits. Red Notice getting two sequels while adding even more big names just goes to show that streaming platforms are gaining a huge amount of ground on traditional theatrical releases.

Considering that the first film already shelled out an unthinkable amount of money for the services of its lead stars, we can only imagine how bloated the budget for the sequel projects is going to be. That being said, it is quite clear that Netflix is more than willing to spend this type of money for what they deem a winner.

Red Notice looks to have started a brand new mega-franchise, except instead of being in theaters everywhere, it’s going to dominate the television sphere, potentially for years to come.

Harry & Meghan

In this unprecedented and in-depth documentary series, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex share the other side of their high-profile love story. Across six episodes, the series explores the clandestine days of their early courtship and the challenges that led to them feeling forced to step back from their full-time roles in the institution. With commentary from friends and family, most of whom have never spoken publicly before about what they witnessed, and historians who discuss the state of the British Commonwealth today and the royal family’s relationship with the press, the series does more than illuminate one couple’s love story; it paints a picture of our world and how we treat each other.

“No one sees what’s happening behind closed doors,” Harry says in the teaser. “I had to do everything I had to do to protect my family.” The teaser contains clips of the royals in vulnerable moments.
