David Kojo Kyei – a music producer, sound engineer and an ordained man of God commonly known as Kaywa, has, in recent interview with Music Journalist – Gerrard Israel, has replied colleague record producer, JMJ’s statement regarding talent unearthing in Ghana. According to the celebrated musician, JMJ shouldn’t downplay the pivotal role and impact Highlife and other genres are having on the industry, as far as talent development is concerned.

He explained that, though reggae & dance-hall is doing well, on equal basis, all major performing genres in the Ghanaian entertainment ecosystem have offered platforms to unearth extraordinary talents and grooming them on the technicalities in music making. He added that, other genres have also produced, added value and equiped young musicians with the requisite music business knowledge, industry insights and support which are transforming them into global stars.

Earlier, JMJ who was very blunt on Asaase Radio 99.5fm in a comment he passed about Ghanaian Highlife Musicians stated that, Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall musicians who have hit mainstream and are at the peak of their careers have helped blow up new talents into big household names than Highlife Musicians have done. He explained that, the twin genre that has produced some of the finest Ghanaian talents under them even with little or no resourcing and finance from nowhere

JMJ revealed that, names like Kojo Kombolo, Samini, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, are some of the mainstream/foundation Ghanaian Reggae and Dancehall musicians who have helped shot the careers of rising acts into visible faces on the Ghanaian music scene by the power of their platforms and indie labels.

But contrary to Jam Master Jay’s (JMJ) assertions, Kaywa stated that, other well known music genres in Ghana are also in the business of talent breeding and development, revealing that JMJ spoke out of his affiliation to the twin genre. Making reference to his own record label, He stated that, Highly Spiritual Music have birthed and developed talents including, Krymi, Lasmid, Mr. Drew, Kurl Songs, who are practically doing extremely well in the entertainment space.

He added that, Richie Mensah, CEO of Lynx Entertainment record label and one time hiplife musician, has been responsible for successfully launching the solo careers of Ghanaian musicians ASEM, Irene Logan, OJ Blaq, Eazzy, Zigi,Jayla and MzVee, and more recently KiDi, Kuami Eugene and DopeNation who have produced and served that Ghanaian entertainment terrain back to back hit singles coupled with videos.

Kaywa urged all music producers, and stakeholders to support all creatives regardless of their genre.
