The anger of some Ghanaians have been visited on President Akufo-Addo for extending a speedy recovery message to President Trump and wife following their testing positive for COVID-19.

President Trump and wife Melania Trump have had their COVID-19 positive status confirmed and as part of diplomacy, President Akufo-Addo has wished them well.

My wife Rebecca and I send best wishes to @realDonaldTrump and his wife, @MELANIATRUMP , after they both contracted COVID-19. We wish them a speedy recovery,”President Akufo-addo tweeted.

Following that some Ghanaians have lashed out at the president for sympathizing with President Trump and wife while neglecting pertinent issues in Ghana unaddressed and unattended to.

According to the replies his tweet got, many bemoaned the president’s readiness to send words of solace to international communities and individuals while the Ghanaian people are left to their fate.

Many cited several instances where the president failed to extend condolences to bereaved families and victims of deadly car accidents but readily accepts to mourn with outsiders.

One in 10 people around the world may have contracted Covid-19, the World Health Organization said, at a special meeting of WHO leaders.

A top official said the estimate meant “the vast majority of the world remains at risk”.

Just over 35m people have been confirmed as being infected with coronavirus – the Whose estimate puts the true figure at closer to 800m.

Experts have long said the real number of cases would exceed those confirmed.

The WHO is meeting at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, to discuss the global response to the pandemic.

Ten months on, the crisis shows no sign of ending. Several countries are seeing second waves after easing restrictions and in some cases, numbers are even higher.

The estimate that 10% of the world’s population has contracted the virus came from Mike Ryan, the executive director of the WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme.

“This varies depending on the country, it varies from urban to rural, it varies between different groups,” he said.

The Liverpool forward Sadio Mané has tested positive for coronavirus, the club has announced. Mané is self-isolating with what the club described as “minor symptoms”.

A club statement read: “Sadio Mané has tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently self-isolating according to the necessary guidelines.

“The forward, who started and scored in Monday’s 3-1 victory over Arsenal, has displayed minor symptoms of the virus but feels in good health overall.

“However, like with Thiago Alcântara, Liverpool Football Club are – and will continue to – follow all protocols relating to Covid-19 and Mané will self-isolate for the required period of time.”

Mané was not part of Liverpool’s squad on Thursday night when the Merseyside club went out on penalties to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup fourth round. Both Thiago and Mané will both be absent for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Aston Villa.

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp will hope to have both players available when his side returns to action after the international break on 17 October for the Merseyside derby at Everton.

Mané, 28, has been in fine form this season, scoring both goals in Liverpool’s win over Chelsea before also netting against the Gunners.

His enforced isolation will also affect his international commitments after Mané was named in Senegal’s squad for their upcoming friendlies against Morocco and Mauritania.
