Akufo-Addo In Quarantine Not Isolation NPP Members, Okoe-Boye And Kojo Oppong Nkrumah ‘Clash’, GlitzEmpire

New Patriotic Party (NPP) members, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and Dr. Oko Boye have clashed over the appropriate word to use in describing the true Covid-19 status of the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo after the Information Ministry announced that he has begun 14-day mandatory isolation.

Recall that a few days ago, news went viral that the President has been ‘forced’ into isolation for 14 days after he came in contact with key members of his party who have tested positive for Covid-19.

However, Dr Oko Boye says the information put out by the Ministry of Information led by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah did not use the right word to reflect the situation.

Explaining the terms isolation and quarantine to Citi FMs Point Blank show, Dr. Okoe-Boye said if you are positive you are in isolation; the terms are different. If someone is positive and if you come into contact until your sample comes you are only in quarantine, but once you are confirmed then we don’t call it to quarantine, we call it isolation.

He further explained that isolation is the term used for positive covid-19 cases. He further said: In English, if I tell you am in isolation it means that I have kept myself from people so I think the confirm negative helps us to appreciate what they mean by isolation. But because I am talking science here, the president like I said in English he has isolated himself but in terms of technical language he is in quarantine, Dr. Okoe-Boye further clarified.

What this means is that Ghanaian should dismiss what Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said because it doesn’t represent the real situation on the ground.

One in 10 people around the world may have contracted Covid-19, the World Health Organization said, at a special meeting of WHO leaders.

A top official said the estimate meant “the vast majority of the world remains at risk”.

Just over 35m people have been confirmed as being infected with coronavirus – the Whose estimate puts the true figure at closer to 800m.

Experts have long said the real number of cases would exceed those confirmed.

The WHO is meeting at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, to discuss the global response to the pandemic.

Ten months on, the crisis shows no sign of ending. Several countries are seeing second waves after easing restrictions and in some cases, numbers are even higher.

The estimate that 10% of the world’s population has contracted the virus came from Mike Ryan, the executive director of the WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme.

“This varies depending on the country, it varies from urban to rural, it varies between different groups,” he said.

According to the replies his tweet got, many bemoaned the president’s readiness to send words of solace to international communities and individuals while the Ghanaian people are left to their fate.

Many cited several instances where the president failed to extend condolences to bereaved families and victims of deadly car accidents but readily accepts to mourn with outsiders.
